About Bits&Bridles

Bits&Bridles was born from what started as a hobby that quickly grew into something much bigger. My grandmother always used to say, “Aniek, you should start trading.” I took her advice to heart and began buying and selling new and second-hand equestrian stock. During that time, I handled countless different bridles, and one thing kept standing out to me: they all looked the same.

Many bridles were made from stiff, hard leather, offered very little choice in design, and provided hardly any room for customisation. Too often, the horse had to adapt to the bridle, when in reality it should be the other way around. That belief inspired me to design my own range of bridles, with greater attention to comfort, appearance, and the individual needs of each horse.

At Bits&Bridles, we believe that a bridle should adapt to the horse, never the other way around. That belief, combined with a passion for well-fitting tack, is what inspired the brand.

From bridles to bit and bridle fitting

As I got to know my customers, I was increasingly asked how a bridle should fit and which bit would best suit a particular horse. It became clear that there was a real need for clear, evidence-based advice.

In 2025, I completed my training as a qualified Bit & Bridle Fitter at the National Equestrian Institute (NHI). Since then, I have continued to expand my knowledge through additional courses, masterclasses and webinars.

During every fitting, my main goal is to identify any issues and determine whether they can be improved with a correctly fitted bit and bridle, helping horse and rider work together comfortably and in harmony.

Alongside the webshop, I also offer bit and bridle fitting consultations at clients' yards, primarily across the north of the Netherlands and parts of the central region.

The L'Anique Exclusive collection

The L’Anique Exclusive Collection was developed based on my experience as a Bit & Bridle Fitter. During fittings, I found that existing bridles did not always offer the flexibility needed to achieve the best possible fit for every horse. That is why I decided to create my own collection, designed specifically with adjustability and individual fit in mind.

The collection combines high-quality materials with anatomical design and the flexibility to configure each bridle to suit the individual horse. Because each component can be selected in a different size, every bridle can be tailored for the best possible fit.

Through Bits&Bridles, I aim to help riders make informed choices about the tack they use. Whether you choose a bridle from the collection or book a fitting consultation, my focus is always on your horse's comfort, supported by honest, professional advice.
